malignancy v. granuloma? My 73 year old mother had an x-ray 9/17/07 showing a 15mm single pulmonary nodule, then a follow up CT scan on 10/10/07 showing same at 1.6cm (16mm) with margins spiculated, no calcification or cavitation. I know that risk of malignancy rises since she's been a life long smoker, the nodule shows no calcification and the margins are not smooth. Still, I note that it hadn't grown much in size in the 3 week period between her initial x-ray and CT. Despite the spiculated margins seen on CT, is there a glimmer of hope that it could be a granuloma that hasn't calcified yet? She is awaiting an appointment with a pulmonary specialist ... the waiting is nerve-wracking to say the least.
