Dull pain in right lung/ X ray showed 1 cm round soft tissue

Post a new topicby fretraer on Sun Apr 05, 2009 1:30 pm

Hello, I am a 33 year old male. Six months ago I had an x ray taken since Im applying for a VISA. They found what seems to be a 6 mm calcified granuloma “the conclusion at that time was “There is a 6mm round nodule in the right upper lung, on the Pa view represents a calcified granuloma, there is no evidence of active pulmonary tuberculosis Heart and pulmonary vascularity are normal. There are no pleural effusions. There is no evidence of lynphadenopathy.

Now, six month later I had another x ray taken and they found (right lung) “There is a new 1 cm round soft tissue density nodular structure in the left infrahilar region along the right cardiac border on the Pa view, more likely representing a pulmonary vessel seen end on than a mass. There is still a dense 6 mm nodule in the right upper lobe and it has no changed”.

Since I had that first x ray taken I’ve been feeling some kind of pain, which started as a discomfort that would go away for a couple of days and then It would come back, but now I feel pain when I move, especially if a I have to curve my back to reach something. When I move I can feel the pain exactly where the 1 cm density is, and somehow I feel (when moving) like something inside is pulling. Also I feel the pain constantly.

I have to say that last December my Doctor diagnosed me with pneumonia (I wasn’t sure since he never had me for an xray at that time or any other test), I went to see him since I had high fever for more than a week and he Just listened to my lungs, checked my throat and he said I needed antibiotics because I had pneumonia So I took my antibiotics.
I am not coughing, I haven’t had fever since last December, I don’t feel any pain when I breath, only when I move. I dont smoke however I lived the first 20 years of my life with 2 parents that smoked more than a chimmeny.

I would appreciate any feedback, I already have an appointment with a pulmonologist on april 14, but I would like information since Ive read on the web that soft tissues in lungs are more likely to be tumors/cancer.
Needles to say that Im more than scare, first cuz my health issue and second my family wellbeing depend on this visa.

It sounds like your Xrays have not changed. The pulmonary vessel seen 'head' on is not of any concern. "Pain" per se is not typically associated with nodules unless there is some involvement of the pleural lining located on the inside of the chest wall (there is a pleural lining encasing the lungs but it feels no pain), or in the major upper airways. The lack of pain sensation inside the lungs is one reason why lung cancer is often diagnosed late rather than early.

Exactly what the source of the pain is, is your largest question. Just let the pulmonologist know what your concerns are, the symptoms you're experiencing and provide them with a comprehensive family history.
