Newly diagnosed with Severe Sleep ApneaI am a 45 year old female recently diagnosed with severe sleep apnea. My husband said I just stopped breathing throughout the night and snored a little. I am not overweight by no means, I have had my tonsils removed over 5 years ago, I don’t sleep on my back (only on my sides) and I don’t have the typical make up of the sleep apnea person. With my test, I stopped breathing over 40 times an hour with my oxygen levels dropping down to the mid 70’s to 80 each time. I never knew wh...Read the full article
Re: Newly diagnosed with Severe Sleep ApneaI am a 56 yr old female just diagnosed with OSA. I have had sleep problems for years and snore badly. My poor husband has been on the couch almost as much as he has been in the bed over my snoring. I have used the strips you wear over the bridge of your nose and it did no good. I have used chin straps but then my husband said I started about a year ago, not breathing. I didn't know it was dangerous til my sister, 51 years old, died last month in her sleep. She went into respiratoy arrest then her heart stopped. Her husband found her too late. I knew then this was nothing to play around with. I went to my doctor and he referred me to a sleep specialist. I did my sleep study and saw the doctor yesterday for the results. I stopped breathing 25 times an hour and my oxygen levels fell to below 70 during the study. I had no idea it was that bad. They sent me home with a CPAP and I had a bad night last night. couldn't sleep with the nasal things in my nose and gave up after 4 hours. Tonight , I can't go to sleep either. I have to go back the 27th. I want to see if they will change me to a full face mask. I think maybe I could handle that better. I have never known anyone with this so I sure need a friend who is going through this too. Now I am worried about 2 of my sons. One has a very BAD snoring problem and the other says he is awaken many times a night and does not know why. I think they both should go through the study too. also have a grandaughter that has sleep problems. I have heard this runs in families. does anyone know if this is true? My parents snored and they both had heart problems when they passed away. Sure could use a friend right now. [moderator note: email address removed]
