Diagnosing Sarcoidosis. Sarcoma?

Post a new topicby sarcsister on Tue Mar 10, 2009 11:04 pm

If my brother had a lung biopsy a year ago, could it still be checked out for sarcoid? The initial diagnosis was sarcoma in the lungs but now after a year of tests, no change and a leg rash bells palsy and many other sarcoid symptoms, we're not sure. His doctor doesn't seem to want to entertain sarcoidosis

Should the lung biopsy slides be sent somewhere? Should he have the leg biopsied? Should he settle and say, okay, I have sarcoma. Couldn't it be both? I'm not in denial, really. He's 41 years old and need to be proactive for himself.

Any sarcoid specialists who are excellent?

Please help.

If you are having trouble obtaining a diagnosis from one physician then you should obtain input from another. I would try to work with your current and ask him for a 2nd opinion from an oncologist familiar with rare forms of sarcoma. Rather than trying to rule-in sarcoidosis the effort should initially be focused on ruling-out sarcoma which is a form of cancer. Yes, I believe properly prepared biopsy slides should be reviewable.
