The granulomas do go away with steroid therapy quite often. A small percentage of people they do not. The high calcium in sarcoidosis is felt to be secondary to excessive production of vitamin D from the granulomas. This increases calcium absorption and alters calcium metabolism to increase calcium in the blood. About 30 to 50% of sarcoid patients resolve 30% remain the same and about 20% progress.
