Wife With "Lung Mass"My wife whom is 57 years, no smoke, no drink, no drugs, has been treated for pnemonia (sp.) for the last 3 months. Antibiotics failed and a CT-Scan was done a week ago. CT showed a "Mass" in her left lung, high up under the shoulder bone. A Needle Biopsy (sp.) was done last Friday but results are a week away. Doctor and Radiologist said that the "mass" was somewhat unusual in that it was "clear", not "dark" like most cancers and is against the chest wall with swollen Lympth(sp.) glands in the area. Her symptoms are weight loss, wheezing cough. Doctors are about 90% of either Lung Cancer or Lymphoma. They say that Lympoma is rare in the lung. Any help would be appreciated. Thank You
Re: Wife WithI am sorry that I cannot provide you much help on this despite all the information you gave. There is no way to predict accurately what this mass could be and that is why the biopsy was necessary. While lymphoma in the lung is rare it can still occur. Lung cancer, although, heavily associated with smoking can occur in people who never smoked. There are also other possible causes but it is best to wait until the biopsy results are here.
