Pulmonary Function Results - Please help

Post a new topicby Jazzcan999 on Mon Oct 05, 2009 4:02 pm

Hi I'm new to the forums. My sister was diagnosed with 3b lung cancer in July. She had a pulmunary test today and it had gone from 47% to 25% in less then a month. She cannot have radiation if it is that low. She has no more symptoms then she had before and is not SOB anymore then usual. Has anyone else had this experience and should she tell her radiologist? Thank you Jazzcan

Very sorry to hear about your sister. As to your questions. The radiologist will be informed and I would hope that no information pertinent to her treatment is ever withheld from any doctor managing the case. They need that data to treat safely and effectively. If the radiologist proceeded to treat and made the situation worse it would certainly not be the chosen outcome. Regarding the PFT, it is not just a single test but one that is comprised of many types of breathing assessments. Exactly which of those has changed is not noted. But it is apparently one that is crucial to how her care can safely be pursued, for now. Perhaps they can employ some chemotherapy and reduce the impact of the tumor(s?) on her breathing enough to allow the radiation treatments down the road.
