hi I had a chest x ray wich found a 1.7cm nodule in upper right lung i then had a ct scan which found five smaller nodules in left lung and 3 more in right lung besides the 1.7 . this was followed by a pet scan that did not light up but said could not rule out cancer, my pulmnogist doesnt seem concerned but gp has made me an appointment with thoracic surgeon also i have lost about 12 lbs in a year and do have emphysema and chest pain and smoked for 20 years i am 40 should i have this taken out even if pet scan is negative . am not sure what to do getting different answers any advice would be great.

You are doing exactly what you need to do. Nodules are not always cancerous and your PET results are encouraging. Your lungs scar just like any other part of your body. Lung scars from healed lung infections show up as nodules. Because those infections can be diffuse, the nodule scars are sometimes found in many places in both lungs. The Docs are your best source of accurate information and how to proceed. He happy and try to relax. So far the news is looking pretty darn good.

I was wondering if ever discussed biopsy with the doctors? Petscan results can be negative even if the nodelues are malignant. This was the case with my mom. She had multiple nodules too. Not to scare you but to warn you I would not wait. Wish you the best Claudia
