Biapical Scarring/HemoptysisIn early spring I thought I had pneumonia .sent to xray..sent to cat scan..sent to pulmonary Dr. Last week I had bronchoscopy and was sent for CAT scan today. On one of the reports was written the above..Biapical Scarring..Hemoptysis. I'm almost 42 yrs old, female, been smoking a pack a day since I was eleven. 1) What would be the reason for a second CAT scan? What else causes scarring of both lungs? Bronchoscopy: all I know so far is they did biospy(s). Results to come within a week, but getting nervous with all the tests...any ideas? Thanks.
Re: Biapical Scarring/Hemoptysisthere are many things that can cause biapical scarring, pneumonia is one of them. The smoking puts you at risk for cancer so that is always a concern. Other causes of biapical scarring and hemoptysis include tuberculosis. You should ask the pulmonologist why he or she repeated the cat scan and did a bronchoscopy. there is no way for me to know what he or she suspects is causing these symptoms in you.

Re: Re: Biapical Scarring/HemoptysisThanks so much for your reply. Results are in..emphysema; biapical scarring and a small nodule on upper left lung. Have to quit smoking! Will be re-tested with CAT scan and breathing test every 6 months. Not the worst news I could've received..I'll be lucky if I stop smoking now..new challenge. Not sure why the scarring but said there was no change between the 2 CAT Scans which is good.
