I don’t have emphysema but my dad does and he is only 60 years old. He was told about 4 years ago that if he were to quit smoking then he would be okay because it was very minor at that time. Now he smokes more and just got released from the hospital after being weak for 6 days and finally passing out. It turns out he has significant emphysema but I have no idea what that means. How long do we have with him? How can I get him to stop? I cry cause he is the world to our family, our ch...Read the full article

Sorry to hear about your father. The truth of it is all of us smokers and people that work in bad atmospheres asked to get it. I wanted to tell you about when i quit. After smoking since 16 now 55 found out i had emphysema. Scared the hell out of me, first thing what am i going to do, You are almost in a stupor for a while till it sincs in and you try to decide which way to go. It scared me so bad that i got chantix from my doctor. believe me it really really worked for me. Didnt even finish the first priscription they say on the pack average about 3 months. it was only a couple weeks. didnt have urges that over powered me. it was easy to relieve them with nicoret gum for a bout two weeks after that it was regular sugarless gum and peperments. its just a habit your body had s to have somthing to do and you have to fil that void with somthing. Its been 6 months now i smell better, dont get any more air like i thought i would but my lungs can expand further. Another friend that also has this problem said to get my afairs in order because you never know how much time you have. it could be weeks and then it could be many years. but not quiting isnt going to help. i watched my father suffer with it and after hearing i had it, i want to do what ever has to be done to avoid late stages. again i thank chantix for making such a great product and from my experience with it cant believe all those side affects. good luck tell your father we all want him to quit.
