Coumadin and Heart Flutters after PE

Post a new topicby Bercy on Sun Jul 26, 2009 7:59 am

Recently hospitalized for pulmonary embolisms and possible embolism in the spleen. My doctors think it was caused by a blood borne strep infection rather than DVT Anyway, since I have been on the coumadin, I seem to get frequent and sustained heart flutters. Sometimes, I can actually feel my chest pounding. Normally I have a low heart rate due to bradycardia (around 50 bpm) but since the coumadin, my heart rate has increased to around 75-80 bpm. I realize that this is an acceptable rate, but for me it is extremely uncomfortable after having a lower heart rate all my life.

It is a normal side effect of coumadin. I also have been taking Cardizem and Imdur for a number of years, but have never had this problem before while taking these medications.

Also, has anyone else gotten an itchy scalp while on coumadin. It is driving me crazy.

Thanks in advance.
