cystic fibrosis lung transplant

Post a new topicby Guest on Mon May 27, 2002 8:58 pm

I recently filled out an application to donate a lobe of my lung to a little boy I read about. I was curious as to what exactly that procedure would consist of. For example: will my rib cage need to be cracked?; How long will I be out of work?; Will this considerably affect my lung capacity?; How long will this aprox extend his life span? I am just researching the facts! Thank you

Unfortunately I cannot give you the answers for these questions. you really need to discuss it with the operating surgeon as each has his or her own techniques. It should not make a major difference in your lung capacity. It may be noticed if you are a real athlete, otherwise it should not really impair your daily activities. I don't know about how long it would extend the child's life as i do not know anything about his condition.
