Stage 4 COPD

Post a new topicby sandradeem on Fri Jun 26, 2009 1:19 pm

My dad passed away 2 months ago from copd He was in stage 4 plus he had emphysema He hasn't smoked for 2 years but his lungs were so far gone there was nothing they could do. He only had 17% lung capacity. I also am a smoker and run the risk of getting the same thing. I am currently trying to quit not only for myself but it's a promise i made to my dad before he passed. I don't want to end up like he was because it was horrible to watch him trying to just take a breath.

I know exactly what you mean. I took care of my mother the last year of her life. It was the hardest thing I have had to do thus far. I am now 40 and have the same thing and trying to stop smoking is a hard thing to do. I never thought I would endup with copd, but here I am. If you can stop, PLEASE do. From what I have heard, it is also genetic as well, you dont want to endup with this so STOP. Trust me it's hard as hell to run out of breath just by walking or going up stairs, or just doing laundry.
Best of luck, I know it;s hard.
