Help! Doc keeps sending me back to workI have had COPD for a year and a half. I was on oxygen for about 4 months and steroids, etc. I was feeling ok for about 6 months and was almost put back into the hospital. Off work another 4 weeks while I kept running to the doctor. Every time I am on steroids, I feel great. The longer I am off them the worse I feel. For 3 days now my chest feels as though it is in a vise and I've been using the nebulizer several times a day. Yesterday I left work and went to the closest hospital and they told me after a breathing treatment that I was fine. Hello! My chest still hurts and I cannot catch a deep breath. Any suggestions, folks? I had to insist on a pulmonologist but, cannot get in until January. Are there any lung centers anywhere or more knowledgeable doctors? Thank you for any responses.

Re: Help! Doc keeps sending me back to workIt is possible that something at your workplace is aggravating your condition. Once your lungs and airways become inflamed they are overly sensitive. The steroids reduce this inflamation and you feel better but it returns when the steroids end and/or your airways again get traumatized by something. Could be as little as the cold winter air. But if it revolves around something like your work setting it could well be something there. Air ducts that are dirty. Dust, fumes, perfumes...lots of things in various workplaces can do it.
