undiagnosed

Post a new topicby Guest on Wed May 01, 2002 10:30 pm

a long time ago I used amphetamine/methamphetamine. At that time i used to experience shortness of breath. My lips would become numb. It felt like I couldn't get a deep enough breath. I quit using illegal drugs 11 years ago.
My doctor prescribed a diet pill for me about 5 years ago and the symptoms returned. When I quit uing the diet pills the symptoms subsided. The diet pill is no longer available so I tried an over-the-counter dietary suppliment recently and the symptoms, once again, returned. Could this be some sort of asthma? It is very uncomfortable but so is being over-weight. I have not been to a doctor for these symptoms. They only occured when I use diet pills or amphetamines.
Do you have any suggestions or comments regarding this problem? Have you ever heard of such a thing?
Also, I might add one more detail. Years ago, I lived with someone who manufactured illegal drugs so I was constantly having to breath the fumes associated with the chemicals and the chemical process. One time the exhaust line broke in the middle of the night and I was awakened, not being able to breath because the chemical exhaust was so thick in the air.
I have changed my life and MY PAST IS SOMETHING THAT ABSOLUTELY NO ONE that I know and associate with now are aware of and that is why I have not obtained a medical opinion.

There are many possible explanations for your symptoms such as an allergy to amphetamines or something in them, a reaction involving your heart, or lungs, etc. Given all that you told me so far, a full evaluation by a physician is definately worth doing. If you are worried about confidentiality you could find a physician in another town close to where you live but most physicians and their offices should be very good about this.
