Sinusitis and AsthmaDoes sinusitis contrie to asthma When "I keep ,my nose clean" I am ashtma free. I am constantly using different antbiotics my sinusitis.
Re: Sinusitis and AsthmaYou are absolutely correct. There is a link between sinus problems and
difficulty controlling ones asthma. Sinusitis is one of the well known
triggers for poorly controlled asthma. Why this is is not well understood
but appears to be a reflex of some sort. The cells lining the nasal passages
and sinuses are very similar to those lining the airways. For instance, many
of the experiments to understand the lung problems in cytic fiboris are
performed on nasal epithelial cells. There is probably a reflex mechanism
between when the nasal epithelium and the airways. One experiment took
rabbits and irritated their sinuses and they began wheezing. The bottom line
is that controlling sinus disease can significantly improve ones asthma
control.
