I went to a new lung specialist this week, she agreed with me that my asthma currently is out of control and that we needed to do something about it. For the last few months every six to eight weeks I end up on a short burst of oral steriods and a visit to the ER. How nice is that and after the last attack I still wasn't better and am still very reactive. So the doctor said stay on my current foradil, pulmicort, singulair, zytec, rhinocort Aqua, and increase xopenex to three time a day also added pulmicort respules 2 times a day. The first full day was wonderful from starting the additional medication. I had slept better and was able speak all day. Last night I woke up coughing and didn't sleep well again, which I can handle. My question is how long until I know that the additional medication will work this is three days later and only little improvements so far. I am still in yellow zone am and pm yellow/green. (pm is 7 o'clock)

it certainly can take a few days if not weeks to really get you back on track. You may need a more prolonged course of prednisone if this doesn't work but it sounds like your lung specialist is doing everything correct so far.

My 12 year old daughter has to work pretty hard to stay in her Green zone which is 350. we just got out of the hospital where they did high doses of steroid for two days and every three hour nebulizer treatments, around the clock. I know that whe she gets in her yellow zone we start xopenex every 4 hours and 30 mg of prednizone oraly for as long as she has her cough. I know what a pain in the butt treatments are but they do pay off.
